Other Towns
Situated just 120 kilometres north-west of Melbourne via the Calder highway, the Castlemaine-Maldon region is interspersed by small towns and settlements that have a rich past from the roaring days of the Victorian Gold Rushes of the 1850's. Set amid rolling hills and a labyrinth of valleys and gullies, you'll sense an air of discovery as you travel through small townships such as Chewton, Fryerstown, Guildford, Harcourt, Newstead, Taradale and Vaughan.
The region is known for its developed tastes. It is renowned for its pursuit of the arts and has become home to approximately 400 practicing artists. Great food and wine experiences are a highlight in the region, with many places for sidewalk dining, cafes and a large choice of wineries.
